LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nye County Sheriff Joseph McGill has issued an apology following public backlash to social media comments made about a recent in-custody death.
This comes after two Nye County deputies were arrested on Sunday on warrants stemming from the in-custody death of a woman following a June vehicle pursuit, according to NCSO.
The woman was identified as Stevie Miller, 30.

FOX5 reviewed a post made in a private Nye County Facebook group about the in-custody death, stating.
“If you would have pumped her stomach instead of just going after the blood alcoholic and inhumane treatment of an inmate she would still be alive but no you chose to treat her like an animal and she died, so thus for you were at fault and always be at fault, the officers are involved.”
The Nye County Sheriff’s Office page responded to the post, “Boy I sure wish you had been there to treat her.”
In a video posted to social media on Wednesday, Sheriff McGill said, “I made a comment on a Facebook post, using the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, which I do have access to, obviously. And that post that was made was unprofessional.
“And that post that was made was unprofessional. It was rude, it was sarcastic, and it absolutely does not reflect how I feel about this community, or how our sheriff’s office should be behaving.”
McGill concluded the video, saying, “I made this post in a moment of frustration. And for that, I sincerely apologize.”
