LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers spent Tuesday interacting with the community as part of First Tuesday events held around the valley.
The events give residents a chance to connect with officers who serve them and ask questions.
At the South Central Area Command, officers discussed the communication aspect of their job, including what happens when someone calls 911 and how officers are dispatched.

Derick Critchlow, communications supervisor for LVMPD, said events like this are important.
“I think public education on the services that are provided to your community is always a big benefit to the community because they know what it is that we can offer,” said Critchlow, “especially as a police department and things that they can get, what to expect when they are asking for these services.”
The department also went over instances when it is appropriate to call 911 and when residents should call 311, Metro’s non-emergency line.
