CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Health Authority has released a new study aimed at better serving the public and eliminating redundancies as part of a collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services.

The agency said its goal is to increase communication and leverage resources together to improve health outcomes.

The study found overlap in areas including environmental health and ground-level reach.

Both groups also focus on chronic disease prevention, children’s mental health, HIV prevention, immunizations, substance abuse prevention and maternal health.

One approach would be an interagency council focusing on population health.

A population health management approach would allow markets to improve health care statewide and allow a data-driven strategy.

“We believe it makes the most sense to build an interagency council with the Division of Public and Behavioral Health and focus primarily on public health with those shared goals,” Allison Genco Herzik, chief of staff for the Nevada Health Authority said.

Many other states use the interagency council model, which the study says leads to broader health care action.
