LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Clark County judge has set bail for man accused of killing a Good Samaritan back in July.
Bail for Rodger Harrison III was set at $250,000 following a court appearance on Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty and waived his right to a trial within 60 days, court records show.
During the hearing, prosecutors argued against Harrison’s release and asked that he be held without bail. Harrison’s defense attorney pushed back, requesting his release or reasonable bail.
According to court documents, District Court Judge Tierra Jones rejected the state’s request for a no-bail hold, finding prosecutors had not met the legal threshold to deny bail entirely. However, the court determined the state did show by clear and convincing evidence that Harrison poses a danger to the community.
Judge Jones ultimately ordered for Harrison to be held on $250,000 bail with high-level electronic monitoring required if posted.

The ruling follows Harrison’s July 30 arrest, when police say he shot a Good Samaritan who intervened to stop him from allegedly stealing flowers from a street vendor near I-11 and Jones Boulevard.
Harrison told investigators he took the flowers because they were uncovered and he assumed they were free. He claimed the shooting was in self-defense, alleging the vendor had a firearm and that the bystander, later identified as Angel Robles, sprayed him with a large canister.
However, detectives noted in an arrest report that Harrison’s handgun was not visible to witnesses or on surveillance footage until he pulled it out and fired. He now faces charges of open murder, robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
Harrison is due back in court on September 16.
