LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Three yellow flower sculptures now stand in an east Las Vegas neighborhood near Sunrise Avenue and 26th Street.
The city-commissioned sculpture, called Las Tres Flores, was created by local artist Justin Favela and is modeled after the Las Vegas Bearpoppy.
“Which is a flower that only grows on the east side, on Frenchman Mountain, Sunrise Mountain, that area. And so making this sculpture is paying homage to East Las Vegas, but also to my heritage, my family that has been here for many years,” Favela said.

Favela was born and raised in Las Vegas. His family has called this part of the city home since immigrating from Guatemala and Mexico in the 1980s.
“I feel like I really found my voice, and I could make things that represented my community,” Favela said.
Family and heritage represented in the work
“Being a Latino has shaped my art in many ways. A lot of my work is about representation,” Favela said.
The sculpture is now a permanent part of the neighborhood, just blocks from where Favela grew up.
“The Tres Flores also represents the three matriarchs in my family, my two grandmothers and my mom, and also the three generations of Las Vegans that are here now since my family immigrated here in the 80s,” Favela said.
Sculpture placed near schools
The sculpture sits near an elementary and middle school. Favela said this matters because the children passing by it are growing up in the same east Las Vegas neighborhood he did.
“So hopefully, kids can see that an artist that came out of this neighborhood was actually commissioned to make a public artwork,” Favela said.
Las Tres Flores is located at Sunrise Avenue and 26th Street in east Las Vegas.
