LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign will glow blue and yellow this Thursday to mark National Service Dog Month.
Clark County Commissioner April Becker will lead a ceremony at the sign at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The colors honor the partnerships between service dogs and the people they help.

Becker said service dogs give people with disabilities a level of independence that can mean holding a job or living safely on their own.
Canine Companions, a national service dog organization with a growing presence in southern Nevada, called the county’s recognition a “milestone of global proportions,” especially in a tourist hub that welcomes millions of visitors each year.
More than 70 million adults and children nationwide live with a disability, but only about 16,000 service dogs from accredited programs are available.
National Service Dog Month aims to close that gap by raising awareness about the dogs and the laws that protect their access rights.
