HENDERSON (FOX5) — Donations have poured in for Friends of Henderson Animal Support after the nonprofit’s storage unit was broken into last week, as FOX5 first reported.
Several items were stolen from the storage unit, and the nonprofit put out a call to the community for donations. Kenni Burdette, co-founder of Friends of Henderson Animal Support, said the response has been strong.
“It’s been overwhelming,” Burdette said. “We put a call out. We expected to get a few donations. Not only have we gotten the donations that we lost, but it’s also three times more, so now we can really push those donations out.”

Sorting and distributing donations
Burdette said the organization is currently taking inventory of what has come in.
“Right now it is intake. We are going to break down and go through a food drive, a distribution, and reach out to our rescues and say, ‘What do you need?’” Burdette said.
The organization is also in the process of moving to a new storage unit, according to Burdette.
Burdette said one of the suspects was caught. Henderson police have not confirmed that with FOX5. Earlier this week, police said they did not have any updates.
Burdette said the organization plans to send an email and social media post next week to its rescue partners asking what they need.
“They will break it down, we will load up and off we go,” Burdette said.
Burdette said the response has included new donors, not just regular supporters.
“It just warms your heart. Just when you feel discouraged, they change that. OK, human kindness is good,” Burdette said. “We are a small organization; we are grassroots. We didn’t think we would get this much, and when you open up all this and monetary donations come in, these are new donors, not just our regulars. They are watching and paying attention.”
