LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 17-year-old was identified as the suspect in the deadly First Friday shooting after police found his wallet, according to an arrest report obtained by FOX5.
Police arrested Isaac Manriquez after investigators linked him to the Oct. 2 shooting that left one teenager dead and two others wounded at First Friday in the Las Vegas Arts District.
According to an arrest report, officers stationed at First Friday heard gunfire shortly after 10:15 p.m. Officers said they rushed toward Charleston Blvd., near Main Street, where they found three shooting victims.
One victim, identified by family to FOX5 as 15-year-old Carth Onasi Jacobs-Rodgers, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to University Medical Center, where he died. Police say two other victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were later released.
Investigators said the violence broke out when two groups crossed paths and began challenging each other before escalating into a physical brawl.
Surveillance cameras and bystander videos captured the altercation, according to the report. Police say footage showed the victim taking several steps back away from Manriquez before Manriquez raised a handgun and fired, according to detectives.
Crime scene analysts said they recovered nine shell casings at the scene, along with a red wallet.
Detectives discovered the wallet contained a card with Manriquez’s name and an RTC transit receipt. Police said they obtained bus security footage corresponding to the receipt, which showed the suspect boarding a transit bus near Warm Springs and Jones wearing clothing identical to the shooter captured on festival surveillance cameras.
Investigators said they also tracked Manriquez’s phone records, which matched the bus route to the festival and showed him fleeing toward an address on Cambridge Street.
According to the arrest report, the residence was his grandma’s, where detectives found him on Oct. 6. Another person at the home told officers that Manriquez spent the weekend at the home and shaved his head following the incident.
During an interview at police headquarters, police said Manriquez asked for his mother to be present before speaking with investigators.
According to the report, when detectives described surveillance footage showing the victim backing away with his hands up before Manriquez assumed a shooting stance, his mother began crying and told detectives she had to step out of the room because she could not bear to hear it.
Manriquez asked for a hug before she stepped out.
Detectives said Manriquez said he believed he lost his wallet in the fight. In the interview with police, he said he joined a gang a few years ago and has marks on his hand that further strengthen his membership.
He told police he bought the gun off of someone on the streets.
Manriquez is charged with one count of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and two counts of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon. Court records showed a Clark County judge signed an order on Oct. 7 remanding Manriquez to the Clark County Detention Center to face charges as an adult.
He was denied bail Thursday morning.
