CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Officials with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be deploying grazing sheep in a bid to prevent wildfires.

The Fall grazing window will occur over the course of the next two to three weeks starting Oct. 17.

One band of around 1,200 sheep will be grazing in Carson City. The sheep will be adult ewes, without lambs, and follow a similar path to the grazing that occurs in the spring.

The sheep will be unloaded behind the Greenhouse Garden Center and will work their way north until they finish grazing behind Western Nevada College and the Timberline and Lakeview neighborhoods.

Residents who will be near the sheep are asked to keep their dogs on a leash to help avoid conflicts.

Guard dogs will also be present for protective purposes.
