LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Clark County School District held its Green Our Planet Giant Student Farmers Market Wednesday, giving students a chance to sell fresh produce and handcrafted goods while raising money for school garden programs.
Lines formed outside the Clark County Government Building Wednesday morning for the event.
Students sold freshly grown produce and handcrafted goods at the market.
Organizers said students gain more than gardening experience through the program.

“A few months ago, teachers would have started planting vegetables and fruit in their outdoor gardens in their hydroponics laboratories. And then they would get their students to write business plans for their farmers market business,” said Ciara Byrne, CEO and cofounder of Green Our Planet. “They figure out pricing and marketing and profit and loss. And essentially, they’re being trained to be young entrepreneurs.”
All proceeds from the farmers market will go toward school garden programs.
Several CCSD schools offer STEM gardens and hydroponics programs in partnership with the nonprofit Green Our Planet, which helps supply those resources.
