LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Court documents have shed more light on the case of a probationary Henderson police officer arrested for DUI just one day after his graduation.
Chasen Bradford, 34, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI shortly before midnight on Friday, March 22. According to HPD Chief Hollie Chadwick, Bradford was one of 14 officers who graduated from the police academy on Thursday. He was terminated following his arrest.
An arrest report from the Henderson Police Department said that officers were dispatched to the area of Eastern Ave. and Sunridge Heights in reference to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. Police found the reported vehicle, a gray Ford pickup trick, and noted that it was “swerving all over the road and hitting medians.”
Police followed the truck and added that the suspect was “driving up on a curb.” They conducted a traffic stop on Anthem Parkway and Schaeffer Hills and Bradford identified himself with his Nevada driver’s license.
Police reported “an aroma of an unknown alcoholic beverage” coming from within the suspect’s vehicle. Bradford complied with police instructions, exited the truck and walked over to the patrol car’s hood.
An officer on the scene conducted a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test (HGN) and “observed six out of a possible six clues of impairment,” according to the police report. Police added that Bradford blew a .104 BAC on a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT). He also reportedly “unsatisfactorily completed the One Leg Stand” field test.
An inspection of Bradford’s vehicle revealed that ”the right rear tire of the defendant’s vehicle had a small piece of rubber missing, consistent with striking a curb or a median,” according to HPD.
Bradford initially told police that he had consumed two beers before admitting that he had “five or six beers throughout the course of the day.”
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Henderson Detention Center, where he blew a .094 and .098 on another pair of BAC tests.
Bradford appeared in 86 games as a major league pitcher from 2017-2019. He spent part of three seasons in Las Vegas when the club, then known as the 51s, was the AAA affiliate of the New York Mets.
Bradford has an arraignment in Henderson Justice Court scheduled for April 22.
