LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A former NBA G League basketball player and his girlfriend will not face a potential death sentence in their upcoming murder trial.
Chance Comanche and Sakari Harnden appeared in Clark County District Court and entered not guilty pleas to all of the charges against them, including murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder. During that hearing, the state revealed that it will not seek the death penalty.
Judge Michelle Leavitt scheduled a hearing on April 3 to set a trial date in the case.
An arrest report obtained by FOX5 revealed the intricate details of an alleged plot to kidnap and kill Marayna Rodgers, who went missing on December 5, 2023 and was found dead in Henderson ten days later. Comanche was a professional basketball player in the NBA G League before he was released by the team.
According to Harnden’s arrest report, the two suspects began planning the murder of Rodgers at the end of November, 2023 and eventually acted on their reported plot when Comanche’s team played in Las Vegas.
Comanche ultimately directed Las Vegas police to the site of the victim’s body, which he said he had covered with rocks. Comanche admitted to using a towel to move the rocks so DNA could not be traced.
