LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The City of Henderson is looking to make drones a permanent part of its public safety response.
Test results
A 30-day test showed drones arrived first on scene more than 71% of the time. On top priority calls, drones arrived an average of three minutes and 29 seconds before patrol officers.
Drones also provided useful information on nearly every flight and helped resolve more than 16% of incidents without sending police or fire crews.
Other uses
The technology could also support firefighters, search and rescue teams and emergency management.
Operations and funding
The program will operate through a regional drone operations center. Funding will come from a federal Homeland Security grant and donations from the Henderson Police Foundation.
