LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A meeting planned for Wednesday aims to provide clarification on concerns raised by people living near the Three Kids Mine in Henderson.
Back in November, FOX5 reported some neighbors were worried about dust a new home development project in the area might cause.
From 1917 to 1961, manganese ore was mined at three kids. There are concerns metals such as lead, arsenic, manganese contaminates the land.
In March 2023, FOX5 met with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection at the site to discuss how it could be safely cleaned up. There are concerns that oversight by the division is not happening as neighbors were lead to believe, as well as allegations that financial commitments from the city to the developer were hidden from the public.
A community forum is planned for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. At the Chimera Golf Club Pavilion, located at 901 Olivia Parkway in Henderson.
Experts will address:
- Air quality concerns
- Asbestos and Mesothelioma concerns
- Property tax issues
- Traffic, police, fire, school concerns and more
