LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As FOX5 reported earlier this month, sound may be coming to the outside of the Sphere this year, possibly as soon as this summer.

So FOX5 checked in with businesses nearby to get their reaction to the news, which many of them hadn’t even heard. Managing Partner of Tacos & Beer and Firefly Tapas Kitchen + Bar, Alejandra Avellaneda says business has lit up at both restaurants since the Sphere first illuminated Las Vegas last year.

“We have people calling in and saying, ‘Hey, I have a concert at the Sphere… Can we book a reservation?’” said Avellaneda.

However, she says it has also come with issues, including some cars towed from their parking lot.

“People that are visiting the Sphere come and park on our lots and just walk because parking around the Sphere is expensive,” said Avellaneda.

And now, another change is possibly coming to the Sphere that could affect businesses nearby.

Earlier this month, Madison Square Garden Entertainment CEO James Dolan told investors during an earnings call that an audio component may be added to the exosphere, possibly this summer.

“This is the first I hear of any audio outside the Sphere,” said Avellaneda. “I don’t know how that would work.”

Avellaneda says the Hughes Center that neighbors the Sphere has its strict noise regulations, which is why Firefly no longer has live entertainment outside and can only play ambient music until 10 p.m.

She says sound from the exosphere could bring complaints from residents and businesses nearby.

“It would all depend on how noisy the music is,” she said, “because if I have guests sitting outside in the patio, and I have my ambient music on, I wouldn’t want it to be interrupted by a concert going on less than a mile away.”

FOX5 asked the Sphere for a timeline of when the sound could be added, and if there will be a volume limit or quiet hours, but they would not comment any further.
