LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The cause of a house fire just off the 215 beltway and Wigwam is under investigation.

The fire started just after 1 p.m.

FOX5 talked with the battalion chief, Richard Reid, with the Clark County Fire Department. He said the fire was immediately upgraded to a high-level response because of the severity of the smoke.

15 engines and 42 firefighters turned out for the response and were quickly able to make entry into the back of the duplex and put out the flames. Firefighters say they did have to saw off the garage door to get inside the front.

“I just witnessed a garage door being sawed apart,” said neighbor Brandon Faulk.. “Nobody knew who was in there. Nobody knew what was going on.”

Officials say everyone made it out safely but two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One person was cut from trying to either put out the fire or escape the home.

There were tents being set up for crews at the scene and FOX5 learned that protocol is typical for a day that hot and with a large response.

“As you can see out here, we had to set up rehab,” Reid said. “Our people, it doesn’t take long with all the turnouts to get overheated really quick. It’s a challenge for us in this type of climate.”

Animal control was also on scene to help with a dog that escaped the fire. Investigators say the fire started in a back room of the duplex. It was contained to just one unit.

Officials say the cause is under investigation and in the meantime, the unit is unlivable because of the damage.
