LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – To make room for new arrivals during the busy 4th of July period, the Animal Foundation is waiving adoption fees for all pets in the shelter on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29.

According to a media release, the Animal Foundation has taken in over 2,230 animals so far this month. The shelter anticipates a surge in animal intakes around the Fourth of July.

Last year, from July 1 to July 10, The Animal Foundation took in 594 animals. This year, the shelter’s intake numbers have increased, pointing to a potentially overwhelming Fourth of July ahead.

Adoptees were lined up all weekend at the Animal Foundation as the shelter works to address critical overcrowding.

The shelter said that medium and large dogs need help the most, since they often stay at the shelter for weeks or even months, waiting to find their forever homes. The Animal Foundation said that the community’s assistance is crucial in ensuring as many animals as possible find loving homes, easing the strain on the shelter during this busy period.

Adoptions take place on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in traffic, beginning at 11 a.m. Please note that there may be a line before opening, and the line may close early if adoptions reach capacity.

Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and up-to-date vaccines. A $10 license fee may apply. The Animal Foundation is located at 655 North Mojave Road. To view all adoptable and available pets, please visit animalfoundation.com.
