LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said they are pressing charges against an individual for trespassing at their headquarters Friday morning.

Police said around 10 a.m., officers encountered a suspicious male wearing a tactical vest with ballistic plates and was armed with a knife. The suspect would later be identified as Christopher Egenlauf, 32.

LVMPD Deputy Chief Dori Koren, who oversees the Homeland Security and Special Operations Division, said that Egenlauf was observed trying to break in to a forensic vehicle in a restricted area of the headquarters.

Officers located the suspect and took him into custody safely without incident.

In their investigation, Koren said that they found a vehicle of his nearby. The vehicle was left on and officers conducted a sweep of the vehicle and around the area to confirm that there was nothing hazardous left behind.

Police believe that Egenlauf meant to harm officers.

Police are looking to charge him with tampering with a vehicle, attempted battery with a deadly weapon and trespassing.
