LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A driver admitted to being impaired in a crash that killed one of her passengers and seriously injured another.

Police said the crash happened Sunday, June 9 around 2:04 p.m. in the area of US 95 and Lake Mead Boulevard’s westbound off-ramp.

Police said Risa Mattele Hannah, a 29-year-old from Las Vegas, was driving a Nissan with two passengers. She was driving northbound on the US 95 and attempted to exit on Lake Mead’s westbound off-ramp.

At the exit, she failed to stay in the travel lane and drove into an unpaved area. Police said the Nissan started to rotate and overturn several times.

The first passenger in the car, Jade Ashlee Hernandez, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, died at the scene. The second passenger, an adult female, was taken to the hospital with “serious” injuries.

Police revealed in a press release that both passengers were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

At the hospital, police said Hannah admitted to drinking alcohol. She was taken into custody and booked in to the Clark County Detention Center for the following charges:

  • 2 counts of Nevada Revised Statute 484C.430 Driving under the Influence of alcohol and or drugs resulting in death and or substantial bodily harm.
  • 2 counts Nevada Revised Statute 484B.653 Reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
  • 1 count of Nevada Revised Statute 484B.223 Failure to properly maintain travel lane.
  • 1 count of Nevada Revised Statute 483.560 Drive on Suspended driver license.

Hannah appeared in court on June 10, Nevada State Police said. She was given a $20,000 bail and has another hearing scheduled for Aug. 14.

“The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Southern Command Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team,” police said.

2024 Year to date: The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 36 fatalities. 2024 fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
