LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Pieces of raw meat left in a wash behind a Henderson neighborhood has left people who live there concerned. Some believe it could be poisoned, others think it’s meant to feed the coyotes coming from the Las Vegas Wash.

Henderson resident Brian Wong says he finds raw meat along the trail behind his neighborhood almost weekly.

“It’ll just be a pound of meat and a butcher’s tray, just laying out there in the Styrofoam container,” Wong explained.

He says every time he finds it, he picks it up and throws it away.

“I’d be concerned if it was poisoned or other people’s dogs were to stumble upon it and eat it, get sick and die,” he expressed.

He’s not sure if it’s poisoned or supposed to be a snack for the coyotes. Last year, FOX5 has reported a video of a woman feeding coyotes in Lake Las Vegas.

“I’d be concerned if it was poisoned or other people’s dogs were to stumble upon it and eat it, get sick and die.” he added.

Ben Alex Dupris, who also lives in the neighborhood, says he’s seen people leaving the meat near the wash.

“People do occasionally put meat out. We’ve seen them place the meat out, and also heard that there’s some explanations, that it’s a gift, it’s a gift to the coyotes and they’re feeding them,” Dupris says.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife says the area, which runs adjacent to the Las Vegas Wash, is filled with coyotes and other wildlife.

NDOW’s Doug Nielsen says regardless of why the meat is being left, it’s better for the animals if it stops.

“You think ‘oh I’ll leave this for the animals cause they can use something to eat.’ Mother Nature provides for herself. When we start making those kinds of messes or leaving those kinds of things, then all we do is create an attractant,” Nielsen says.

He says anyone who suspects animals are being poisoned should contact their local police department immediately.
