LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The ACLU will be sending volunteers to observe polls and assist voters in all 17 Nevada counties on Election Day.
The ACLU of Southern Nevada announced Monday that its Voter Protection Alliance would be leading the “largest mobilization of civil rights attorneys in state history.”
In the release, the ACLU detailed that volunteers – including more than 50 attorneys and hundreds of non-attorneys – will be present to monitor for election interference or voter suppression. Additionally, volunteers will be able to assist voters with complex voting rights issues and “lay the groundwork for potential litigation,” if needed.
The program is in partnership with Silver State Voices and the Let Nevadans Vote Coalition.
The ACLU‘s announcement comes after the Department of Justice also shared that it will be closely monitoring Clark County on Election Day.
“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, and our election protection work is about protecting that right for everyone. We have mobilized a huge number of volunteers, and alongside our legal team, we remain ready to defend democracy and will ensure that voting rights are protected,” ACLU of Nevada’s Executive Director Athar Haseebullah stated. “While we hope for a positive experience for all voters on Tuesday regardless of who they vote for, we are prepared to challenge any barrier that stands between Nevadans and their right to vote on Tuesday and beyond.”
