LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – With President’s Trump’s tough stand on illegal immigration, the ACLU of Nevada has launched a webpage called “Know Your Rights.”
A senior staff attorney says new immigration measures by the Trump administration have created some fear and confusion for community members.
“We have received a lot of questions, specifically related to what they should do in case they do encounter immigration agents or any other agents within the community,” said ACLU of Nevada Senior Staff Attorney Sadmira Ramic.
The web page specifically addresses rights when it comes to the workplace, K-12 education, higher education, health centers, places of worship and individual rights, which Ramic says may be the most useful section.
“And a couple key points from that, that they should take away if anything is, that they have constitutional rights whether they’re undocumented, whatever their status is, in the same manner as anybody else is in this country,” said Ramic.
The ACLU of Nevada says the guide does not substitute for individualized legal advice, but hopes it helps people prepare for any “eventuality.”
The “Know Your Rights’ section can be found here.
