LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of Henderson told residents in one HOA community to fix their leaking pipes or the water would be turned off and they’d be forced to leave their homes in two weeks. That was two weeks ago Monday. What will happen now at the Somerset Park Townhomes?
FOX5 went back to the community near Pabco and Sunset Monday night and the issues here have not been fixed. There are water leaks everywhere. No repairs have been made.
Residents say their current HOA management company got estimates to the tune of one million dollars plus to patch the problems but the city wants all the pipes replaced so the city will come in to get the job done after the HOA failed to propose a viable solution.
“I am actually livid,” said Kendra Day.
For the 85 homeowners, that means tax liens on their properties and an estimated bill of about $7,000 each. At the Monday night meeting, homeowners were also told their HOA fees are also going up to $412 a month to fix the dried out landscaping.
“In the overall scheme of things, it puts a strain,” shared homeowner Irene Montano.
“I am very frustrated. On the way home, I cried the whole way,” Day revealed. Day, a mom of six, says she can’t afford all the new monthly charges and is now considering selling her home.
“We are looking at about $700 to $800 a month… on top of the mortgage which is insane. It is not fair… I just feel like this is the worst of the worst situation that could happen,” Day contended.
FOX5 reached out to the city Monday. They say they are now awaiting a formal proposal from the HOA but again as the mayor said last week, no one will be forced to leave their homes Tuesday as long as a plan is in place.
Tuesday, the HOA management company will meet with city to present a budget. No timeline has been given for the work to begin but the city says they want to get the wasted water stopped as soon as possible.
There are allegations of embezzlement of HOA fees against a former property management company of the community, Heritage Property Management (no longer in business).
CAMCO, the current property management company, sent this statement to FOX5:
“CAMCO HOA management hosted Somerset Park community members at a meeting to adopt a budget and discuss needed repairs.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the homeowners that the HOA board is accepting the City of Henderson’s assistance for the total replacement of the plumbing.
The board reviewed bids with the lowest right now being $1.4 million for total replacement.
The city told the board they will not accept the repair to the plumbing as a solution so the bids CAMCO received for repairs cannot be considered.
The city would not give the association an extension to review more bids, and the association has to comply with the September 10 deadline to have permits on file for total replacement.”
