LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Bill Foley and the Vegas Golden Knights may have opened the doors for professional sports on the Las Vegas Strip, but it was Mark Davis, the Raiders, and the construction of Allegiant Stadium that truly made the valley a destination sports city.
What was once just an empty lot along I-15 became home to one of the most iconic franchises in the NFL.
Shovels were in the ground November of 2017 and just a short 31 months later, Allegiant Stadium was complete.

To put that in perspective SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles broke ground in November of 2016, yet they opened two months after Allegiant Stadium.
Allegiant Stadium has hosted some of the biggest events in the world from international soccer to WrestleMania 41 to one of the most watched TV programs in history, Super Bowl 58.
Since 2021, the stadium has welcomed over four million visitors from all 50 states and 122 countries.
Allegiant Stadium will host its first boxing match in September featuring Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
WrestleMania returns in 2026, the College Football National Championship game will be played in Las Vegas in 2027, and Allegiant Stadium is expected to host another Super Bowl, which could take place as early as 2029.
