LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas search and rescue crews conducted another hiker rescue on Mt. Charleston this past weekend.
In a post shared by Las Vegas Metro police, teams noted that most of these rescues were related to hikers not having proper equipment to deal with icy trails.
On Sunday around 10:30 a.m., SAR teams were deployed to the South Loop area after a hiker slipped and injured his leg. Teams noted that the hiker was not equipped with any crampons or traction devices.
An officer and a volunteer were dropped near the injured hiker’s location by helicopter and were able to hoist them out of the area. The hiker was treated for their injury, while the other three hikers were also extracted.
The victim was then taken to the forest service helipad, where the hiker was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
According to LVMPDSAR, this is the fourth rescue operation out of South Loop in the last few weeks.
Hikers planning any trips to the area are urged to bring crampons or micro spikes, among other tools for icy conditions.
