LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man was run over twice in a hotel loading area in Downtown Las Vegas, police said, in what authorities say may have stemmed from an argument between a rideshare driver and another man.
The collision occurred on Aug. 8, just before 10:30 p.m., on First Street near East Ogden Avenue. Callers reported that a security guard was attempting CPR on Matthew Bowen, who was on the ground and not breathing, the report said.
Bowen was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Investigators learned that a vehicle driven by Kevin Vo was parked in the loading dock area of the Circa Hotel when he began arguing with an unidentified man. According to the report, the vehicle was put in reverse and drove toward the unidentified man, striking Bowen, who was crossing behind the SUV.
“The Cadillac’s rear wheels ran over Mr. Bowen before the vehicle stopped,” the report said. “The Cadillac then drove forward to the west, running over Mr. Bowen a second time.”
The unidentified man ran away and wasn’t located by police. Vo did not “satisfactorily complete” a standardized field sobriety test, police documents said, leading to a blood test. Those results are pending.
During a police interview, Vo told investigators he was driving for Uber and waiting for a fare when the unidentified man approached him, saying he would kill Vo, the arrest report said. He said he wanted to leave the area and tried to reverse the vehicle. Vo admitted that he knew he had hit someone and tried to pull forward to “get his vehicle off the person.”
Vo faced a felony charge of reckless driving. A charge of DUI resulting in death was denied for prosecution Tuesday, according to court records. Vo’s initial appearance, scheduled for Wednesday, was canceled. Bail was set at $250,000, and Vo was ordered to “stay out of trouble.”
