LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – After their stadium on the Las Vegas Strip is built, the Athletics want to be able to play almost 10 percent of their home games away from it.
That’s according to the tentative non-relocation agreement between the team and the Clark County Stadium Authority, first reported by the Nevada Independent.
That number – seven, is at least double the number any other MLB team plays outside their home stadium.
The league has series in Mexico, Japan and England most years – but they’re usually no more than two games each and a team won’t play in more than one per year.
FOX5 has reached out to A’s president Dave Kaval to clarify where these home games away from home would be played – but we have not heard back.
We’ve also asked the stadium authority board whether this amount of neutral site games will affect the bonding the A’s will be able to receive for the construction of the stadium.
The board is expected to vote on this agreement on July 18.
