At-fault driver in multi-car crash near UNLV dies days later

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police say the driver who was found at fault for a multi-car crash near UNLV has died.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the driver, identified as 42-year-old Nicole Chauvet, died at Sunrise Hospital Sunday. The crash happened at University Center and Harmon April 30.

Seven vehicles were involved, and police said seven people were hospitalized, two of whom were critically injured. Those taken to the hospital were eventually released while Chauvet was treated in the intensive care unit.

The Clark County coroner notified Metro of her death Monday.

Police said Chauvet drove a 2023 Hyundai Elantra northbound on University Center toward Harmon at a high rate of speed. She would crash into the rear of a stopped Ford Transit Van at the intersection.

The crash caused a domino effect where five other cars would crash into each other.

“The driver’s death marks the 61st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the Year 2025,” police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
