LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A confrontation between an armed robbery suspect and a victim openly carrying a firearm ended in gunfire early Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and the suspect in critical condition, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Incident Details
At approximately 12:39 a.m. on March 1, 2026, LVMPD Communications received a report of two males armed with guns near the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Nellis Boulevard. The call was subsequently updated to indicate that shots had been fired.
Responding officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were immediately requested, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigation Findings
The LVMPD Homicide Section was notified and responded to investigate the incident. Through their investigation, detectives determined the following sequence of events:
The deceased victim had been openly carrying a firearm and had just left a business in the area
- Aguilar approached the victim and, at gunpoint, demanded the victim’s firearm
- The victim drew his own firearm in response
- The two men exchanged gunfire, resulting in both sustaining gunshot wounds
Suspect Located and Arrested
Additional officers located a second male, identified as 39-year-old Robert Aguilar Jr., in the 5000 block of Kell Lane. Aguilar was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Charges Filed
Aguilar has been booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center and faces the following charges:
- Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon
- Robbery with a Deadly Weapon
