LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Parents of high school students should be warned that preparing for College Board exams could lead to rip-offs.
Someone could call claiming to be from the company that administers tests like the ACT and SAT.
They’ll say they’re confirming an address to send the preparation materials the student ordered at school. The caller may even know the teen’s name, school and the date they will take the exam.
Then, they’ll say that a deposit is required for the materials. They’ll give reassurance it will be refunded as soon as the books are sent back.
But it won’t. It’s a scam.
The Better Business Bureau advises to always be suspicious of unknown callers.
If in doubt, double check with the test taker to see if anything was ordered. Also, be advised, the College board will never ask for credit card information over the phone. Finally, never give financial information to strangers.
