LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Shelley Berkley and Victoria Seaman have emerged as leaders in early voting results in the Las Vegas mayoral race.
63,724 votes have been tallied in the race as of Wednesday morning, and current results show Berkley holding 35% of the total vote and Seaman holding 30%. Cedric Crear is the next closest runner-up with 19% of the vote.
Since no one has yet received 50% of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes will proceed to a runoff election in November.
“We’ve got a long way to go, after today, we roll into the general election. But I think I’m ready to take that on as well,” Berkley told FOX5.
Berkley represented Nevada’s first congressional district from 1999 to 2013, and unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2012.
“I’ve been on the city council for five years and we’ve handled over 4,000 issues that have come into my office. And I think people know that I’m there to serve the public,” Seaman told FOX5.
Seaman is currently serving on the Las Vegas city council, representing the city’s second ward.
“We have a long way to go,” Cedric Crear told FOX5 about the race. “I have a lot of support behind me… It’s still early, we’ve got the early votes that have just come in for the mail ballots. We still have today’s votes to count, we still have some more mail ballots to count. Still have a ways to go – this is just step one.”
Crear currently serves on the city council as well, serving the city’s fifth ward.
This race will see the first candidate not part of the Goodman family occupy the role of Las Vegas Mayor since 1999.
