LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Watch out for phony personalized gifts on social media.
The Better Business Bureau says it’s gotten numerous reports from people not getting the items they promised.
Fox5 investigates explains how this scam works.
You’re scrolling on social media and see an ad for a personalized product.
You buy it, but the quality is not what you expected when it finally arrives.
There’s a spelling error or its completely different from the website’s description.
And the company’s customer service never gets back to you.
The BBB says before buying anything online research the company.
A quick Google search can reveal if other customers have complained about the quality.
Inspect the ad and the website. Look out of red flags like poor grammar and spelling mistakes and blurry pictures of the product.
Also, just because an ad is “sponsored” doesn’t mean it’s legitimate.
Another red flag to look out for are ads promising limited time offers or an extreme discount. It could be luring you into a scam.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
