LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Everybody could use a little extra money, but if you get a call approving you for a loan you didn’t apply for, hang up before you get ripped off.
The Federal Trade Commission warns scammers will call, saying you’ve been pre-qualified for a loan. All you have to do is provide your birth date, social security number, and banking information, and the money will be in your account within days. The caller will urge you to act fast because this is a limited-time offer. You may receive multiple calls or voicemails, all designed to wear you down and sign you up.
But don’t fall for it, it’s a scam designed to steal your personal and banking information.
If you get a voicemail like this, do not call back! You’ll just get even more scam calls. Don’t trust caller ID, cybercriminals know how to spoof the names and phone numbers of legitimate companies. Also, be sure to block the number and report the call to the FTC.
Remember, never share personal information of any type with anyone who contacts you unsolicited.
