Bicyclist killed after being hit by wrong-way driver in northwest valley, police say

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man was arrested Sunday morning and faces charges related to DUI and reckless driving.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened just after 7 a.m. on North Shaumber Road near West Grand Teton Drive.

Witnesses told investigators a car was driving on the wrong side of the road. A bicyclist was riding on Shaumber and tried to get out of the way of the vehicle, according to law enforcement officials.

The driver ultimately hit the cyclist, identified as a 77-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the driver, identified by police as Charles Carter, 69, stayed on scene and displayed signs of impairment. He was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless driving.

This crash remains under investigation by police.
