CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – A bill that would require political campaigns to disclose whether they used AI in campaigns has passed.
Assembly Bill 73 was approved by Governor Joe Lombardo on June 3.
The bill requires that any communication using video have an AI disclosure present for the entirety of the video. Any communication using only audio must have the disclosure read in a clearly spoken manner, and in a pitch that can be easily heard by the average listener.
Any candidate depicted in an ad using AI that is not disclosed may seek an injunction or other relief in district court against the person or organization that made the ad.

“Artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding, and we need to be ready for the potential use of this technology in political campaigns,”said Secretary Aguilar. “Voters deserve to know if what they’re seeing and hearing is manipulated or fake, so they can make informed decisions at the ballot box.”
