CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – A bill that would create a task force to study the steps needed to build regional rail systems has advanced out of committee.
The task force would concern the development of regional rail transit for Washoe and Clark County.
AB256 would mandate that these people be involved in such a task force:
- A rail union representative for both Clark and Washoe County
- A representative for the RTC of Southern Nevada, as well as one for Washoe County
- One representative for a private business engaged in the business of rail or transit
- One member of local government for both Clark and Washoe Counties
- One member from both Clark and Washoe County with an interest or expertise in rail transit
The proposed task force would study the current state of rail transit in both counties, the need for rail transit, potential sources of federal, state, private or nonprofit money to support the development of regional rail transit, and who should be involved in the planning and development of such a system.
The members of the board will serve without compensation.
“Regional rail is a critical need for my constituents and for Nevadans across the state,” said Assemblymember Selena La Rue Hatch, who introduced the bill. “I am proud to sponsor legislation that lowers costs for working families while also decreasing pollution, boosting our economy, and improving the lives of my constituents.”
