LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A child struck by a vehicle in a suspected DUI crash has died, the family told FOX5.
The 12-year-old boy, identified by the family as Cristofer Suarez, died Monday. His mother, Martina Suarez, said the boy had been on life support.
“He’s brain dead,” Suarez said. “Today is going to be his time of death, and I’m so mad.”
The crash occurred Friday, just before 8 a.m., near the intersection of Eastern and Owens avenues. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials said Cristofer had just stepped off a curb in a school zone when he was struck by a vehicle.
The driver, later identified as Oh’Ryan Brooks, 27, did not initially stop at the scene of the crash, police said. He was later found by law enforcement officials.
“This person hit my son, he left him there like he was a piece of trash,” Suarez said. “Like he was a dog — went about his day.”
Before Cristofer’s death, Brooks faced one count of failing to stop at the scene of a crash, DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, and reckless driving — all felonies. He is due to appear in court Tuesday.
