LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Surveillance video captured thieves breaking into multiple card shops across the Southwest Las Vegas Valley, with owners now tightening their security systems.

Three card shops fell victim to burglars, all located within minutes of each other, with two on South Fort Apache Road.

Bold break-in at Collecting Dust

Surveillance video shows thieves kicking in the front door of Collecting Dust Card Shop, prying glass from the frame before crawling inside. The shop was closed to customers, but employees were still inside.

“I think they got spooked because they didn’t realize we had people in the back streaming,” said manager Jacob Rivera.

The thieves moved quickly, according to the manager.

“They took a couple thousand dollars’ worth of Pokémon boxes,” Rivera said. “It seemed like they kind of had an idea of what they wanted and took what they wanted.”

Legacy Sports Cards targeted

Down the road, Legacy Sports Cards said thieves tried to break in but were unsuccessful.

“It’s a little scary, you know? Like, these guys are just coming in through the walls, apparently, and breaking in,” said Marcus, the store manager.

Awesome Card Shop loses $50,000 in merchandise

A few minutes away, another card shop was hit. The Awesome Card Shop shared security video from inside their store showing two hooded men entering through the wall and going from showcase to showcase, loading items into a large duffel bag.

The owner said he was shocked by the break-in.

“This place is like Fort Knox. And we have so many measures in place. Extraordinary measures, actually, that most shops don’t have,” said store owner Marcel Bilak.

The footage shows the thieves were only inside for three minutes but made off with dozens of “hobby boxes” containing collectible sports cards. The owner estimates their value at about $50,000.

The owner said he is confident they will be caught. His surveillance camera captured the getaway car — a green SUV.

“I think it’s going to be a lesson learned for these guys. So, here’s the thing. Everyone who’s ever broken into my shop has been caught,” Bilak said.

Sports and Pokémon cards often have modest resale values, but rare or high-grade collectible cards can sell for thousands of dollars each.

Card shops nationwide have been targeted. In Southern California, a series of burglaries took place earlier this month.
