MIDAS, Nev. (KOLO) – NOV. 13 UPDATE: The Castle Ridge Fire in Elko County is 70 percent contained at 25,885 acres.

The Bureau of Land Management reports that crews continue to mop up the interior of the fire, where flames still smolder.

Repair work on dozer lines cut to stop the fire are 95 percent complete.

The fire was reported Oct. 6 and burned to within a quarter mile north of Midas.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.that crews continue to mop up

Update on Oct. 11: The BLM is now reporting that the Castle Ridge Fire is now 26,885 acres.

Update on Oct. 10: The Bureau of Land Management says containment on the Castle Ridge Fire has reached 30%.

The fire is still located around 1/4 of a mile north of the town of Midas in Elko County and is still 25,762 acres.

They say that fire movement towards Midas and the Midas Mine has been stopped, and that fire crews have significant progress on the south and southwest end of the fire.

Update on Oct. 9: The Castle Ridge Fire burning in Elko County has grown in size since Tuesday and is now closer to the small Nevada town of Midas.

The fire is now 25,762 acres and is 20% contained.

The Bureau of Land Management now says the fire is 1/4 of a mile north of Midas. BLM says fire crews have minimized fire growth to the south.

Original Article: A fire measuring more than 24,000 acres is burning in Elko County, and is threatening the town of Midas, Nevada.

As of Tuesday morning, the BLM says the Castle Ridge Fire is around 24,078 acres and is burning around three miles north of the town in remote mountains. Officials say limited road access is hampering containment efforts.

The fire was first reported on Sunday and was determined to have been started by a hunting vehicle that caught fire.

BLM says the fire is spreading in the direction of the town. The Midas Mine also has several structures that are being threatened by the fire.

As of Tuesday, the fire is 10% contained and is burning in brush and grass.
