Cause determined for apartment construction site fire in North Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The cause of a large fire that charred a construction site in North Las Vegas has been revealed.

According to North Las Vegas officials, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, “due to materials or work processes in use when the fire started. The cause was determined through witness accounts and video surveillance from surrounding businesses.

The fire broke out on Aug. 5 at an apartment complex under construction on North Fifth Street at Centennial Parkway. Officials said multiple three-story apartment buildings under construction were on fire when they arrived.

Officials said 25 fire department vehicles and 75 personnel responded to the scene to battle the blaze while police worked to evacuate nearby buildings.

The investigation remains ongoing, officials said, and anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact Commander Wavie Reed of the North Las Vegas Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Division at 702-633-1102.
