LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Clark County School District has asked the community to participate in a survey gathering input on school start times.

The school district is considering adjusting school start times by 30 minutes later for the 2026-27 school year. The survey closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. Officials say it takes about three minutes or less to complete.

CCSD says shifting school start times is an effort to create a schedule that better fits the community with minimal fiscal impact.

“We are asking our entire community to participate in this survey to get an accurate pulse on the topic,” said CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert. “We understand that any change we make to school start times impacts our employees, students, families, and even businesses across Clark County. It’s important to hear from our community.”

CCSD says most high schools start at 7 a.m. However, research suggests that starting school later has benefits for students, such as improved sleep quality, alertness, and stronger academic performance.

“Later start times are associated with better mental health outcomes, including reduced stress, lower rates of depression and anxiety, and improved overall emotional well-being,” the district said.

The survey is open to parents, guardians, students and staff. It’s said to be available in English, Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese, Amharic and Chinese. The survey could be found at this link.
