LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Chuck E. Cheese is rolling out a new birthday party option, designed with kids on the autism spectrum in mind.

Starting April 1, the chain is launching “Sensory Sensitive Birthdays,” an inclusive birthday package created in collaboration with Autism Speaks and Sensory Safe. The new parties are built off the traditional Chuck E. Cheese birthday experience but with flexible, sensory-friendly adjustments.

Families can opt in or out of things like lights, sounds and other high-energy elements so the celebration better fits their child’s needs.

The launch coincides with World Autism Month. With an estimated 1 in 31 children in the U.S. on the autism spectrum, the company says demand for inclusive family entertainment is growing.

To mark World Autism Month, Chuck E. Cheese will offer two Sensory Sensitive Sunday events:

  • April 12, 9–11 a.m., at select locations
  • April 26, 9–11 a.m., at all corporate locations across the U.S. and Canada

The company is also running a fundraising campaign for Autism Speaks. Guests who donate $5 at checkout get 500 e-tickets.
