LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Henderson Police unions have each declared an impasse with the city over contract negotiations, according to a statement.

Henderson Police Supervisors Association and Henderson Police Officers’ Association said they were disappointed to make the decision, but say they had no other option.

HPOA and HPSA said the city “refused to engage in meaningful negotiations over a new contract.”

The union’s claim the city has not agreed to any proposals made despite meeting over the course of several months.

“If the if the City truly prioritizes public safety, it will return to negotiations with a true desire to negotiate a fair wage increase which reflects the cost of living challenges and PERS retirement increases endured by these officers,” according to the unions’ statement.

The union’s claim the city accepts accolades and awards achieved by officers but they are not willing to pay them for it. And according to the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers on behalf of the unions, the city did not offer any PERS compensation nor wage increase. The city allegedly offered only a small COLA in exchange for other concessions.

PERS is the public employee retirement system in Nevada, and COLA means “cost of living adjustment,” according to the association.

“Until the city does, manpower shortages in the form of vacant positions, will continue to be the norm,” the unions said.

FOX5 has reached out to the city for a statement Monday evening.
