LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of Las Vegas adopted two bills to help prevent animal abuse and neglect.

The bills were inspired by high profile animal events last year, according to a letter from councilwoman Victoria Seaman.

There’s now limits on how many animals a pet shop or breeder can sell to one person or household in a single year.

This was based off a hoarding case where a couple purchased over 60 animals from the Petland in Boca Park.

The city also boosted its animal abandonment penalty to $1,000. This ordinance was based on Reba the Bulldog’s story. Two people are accused of her death, Isaac Laushaul Jr. and Markeisha Chanpale Foster.

They both face three charges.

On or around July 25, 2024 the pair allegedly placed the English Bulldog in an bin with a lid and was left outside the extreme summer heat, which caused Reba to have a heat stroke and ultimately die.
