City of Las Vegas approves plans for housing, retail space at Desert Pines Golf Course site

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The City of Las Vegas says it has approved redevelopment plans for the site of Desert Pines Golf Course.

According to the city’s announcement, the golf course would become a 17-parcel subdivision that will include mixed-income housing, retail and educational open space uses.

The plan also includes a partnership with College of Southern Nevada for workforce education and a training center.

The city said McCormack Baron Salazar Inc. and Urban Strategies Inc. will be the developers.

“The Desert Pines Golf Course has operated for nearly 30 years and will now be repurposed to support new and needed uses for the community,” City officials said.

Last year, Governor Joe Lombardo announced affordable housing projects that included the site of the golf course. The Nevada State Infrastructure Bank approved $25 million in financing for the land to be converted to 1,400 affordable housing units.

The push to redevelop the golf course into housing units has been a years-long development. The City said the change will help to address the critical housing shortage.
