Clark County Commission greenlights contract with Animal Foundation

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Clark County Commission approved a new contract with the Animal Foundation on Thursday, becoming the first of three local jurisdictions to greenlight the agreement.

Las Vegas and North Las Vegas city councils have yet to vote on the contract. If approved, it would bring all three jurisdictions together with the Animal Foundation in a unified partnership.

The contract is a one-year agreement with four one-year renewal options. Each jurisdiction would pay a portion to support the Animal Foundation.

At Thursday’s meeting, Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who has consistently voted against the Animal Foundation over the past several years, praised the group’s work in addressing concerns.

“I know, shocker for everybody,” Kirkpatrick said. “But I feel like I could support it because they’ve truly done everything that they said they would.”

Kirkpatrick was still cautious in her approval, saying she was only OK with moving ahead provided the contract was just one year with renewal options.

“I’m good with doing this in baby steps on one year,” she said.

Commissioners also approved a grant of $757,050 to the Animal Foundation.

The North Las Vegas City Council could vote on the unified contract as soon as tomorrow.
