LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County commissioners giving the green light to build an arena to potentially bring an NBA franchise to Las Vegas.

The sprawling property would be built on Las Vegas Boulevard between the Sahara and Fontainebleau resorts.

At a zoning meeting Wednesday, commissioners unanimously approved the land use permit.

The LVXP project is also located near the Turnberry Towers where hundreds of people live. Some of them spoke in front of commissioners during the meeting. They say while they have some traffic concerns, they want something built.

“We’ve been looking at an empty hole for way too long, way too long, we want something to go in there and we want some action,” one resident said.

“There’s some vagrants living in there and they have some ladders to get over the wall to the Turnberry Place property,” said another resident.

This project replaces the previously announced all-net arena and resort.

As of this report, there is no timeframe for when construction could begin.
