LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada is warning residents about new scam messages targeting Las Vegas valley residents.
According to a release sent Thursday, the messages claim to be from District Court of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and say recipients have unresolved parking violations and tickets. A link to resolve the matter is often included in the text.
The messages usually threaten the potential victims with various legal consequences, saying, “Failure to respond within 24 hours will result in an active arrest warrant, suspension of vehicle registration, heavy additional penalties, and potential imprisonment.”

Once victims respond, scammers usually ask for a pre-paid credit card.
“We are seeing people coming to the courthouse after being targeted by these bogus texts,” said District Court Chief Judge Jerry Wiese. “We are taking action to warn the community to stop these scammers from swindling money from unsuspecting victims; and we are asking the community to help get the word out by letting others know about these scams.”
Those who receive these texts, calls or emails should not click links or respond. No official representatives of the court will call to solicit payment for violations with pre-paid credit cards or issue threats. The court never texts, calls or emails people to get personal information, such as their Social Security number, date of birth or driver’s license number.
Different variations of this scam continue to appear. They may be done through text, phone call or email.
One example of a scam text reads: “You have received this official text message notification from the Eighth Judicial District Court, Clark County. Officer Thompson, Nevada State Police Traffic Division. Judge Robert Kline has scheduled your case for unpaid parking violations associated with your vehicle. Court Clerk James Thompson has authorized this final notice. A mandatory hearing is scheduled for April 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM before Judge Robert Kline. Reply Y immediately to avoid escalation or reply A to settle the case. Failure to respond within 24 hours will result in an active arrest warrant, suspension of vehicle registration, heavy additional penalties, and potential imprisonment ordered by Judge Kline. This is your last opportunity.”
