LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County and the Arbor Day Foundation are giving away trees as part of their Community Canopy Project.
In a news release, officials announced that Clark County would distribute 2,300 trees, contributing to the “urban forest” initiative launched in 2024. The program aims to target areas most vulnerable to the urban heat island effect. Those ZIP codes include 89014, 89121, 89119, 89104, 89110, 89103, 89169, 89106, 89102, 89030, 89101 and 89142.
Residents in those ZIP codes can claim a tree by going to the Arbor Day Foundation’s website.
“The Community Canopy Project fulfills one of our All-In Clark County goals to make our community more climate resilient,” said Jim Gibson, Clark County commissioner for District G. “More than just curb appeal, trees also reduce air temperature over time, provide shade to cool down streets and help reduce energy costs for homeowners.”
The fall giveaway is available to all Clark County residents on Monday at 8 a.m. The project has distributed 4,500 trees since 2024 and aims to plant an additional 4,500 by spring 2026.
