LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County School District bus drivers are raising concerns after learning that their usual summer work schedule may look different this year.
On Monday, bus drivers and aides gathered at the local Teamsters 14 headquarters to rally support for the issue. Bus drivers say the district did not give them enough prior notice before announcing the change.
One bus driver, who wished to remain anonymous, told FOX5, “A lot of bus drivers are very frustrated. They weren’t given a heads up to where they could have rearranged their finances. They have families that they have to be in support of.”
Additionally, drivers claim that their contracts entitle them to full-time work during the summer. These changes would see drivers have their schedules cut down to three or four days a week.
“Without the drivers, the teachers wouldn’t be able to perform their duties inside of the classroom,” the driver added. “And without the bus aides, the drivers wouldn’t be able to perform their duties.”
CCSD says the past schedules were set after summer school enrollment numbers spiked after the COVID-19 pandemic, but have since returned to normal. It canceled all summer bus services on the last day of school.
Bus drivers are set to return to work on July 29.
